We do not daven east. We daven at one point on earth.

Outside Eretz Yisrael, we turn towards Eretz Yisrael.
In Eretz Yisrael, towards Yerushalayim.
In Yerushalayim, towards Har HaBayis and the place of the Kodesh HaKodashim.

The line is measured across the globe, the shortest way, not the way it looks on a flat map. Inside Eretz Yisrael every shitah gives the same answer, so the question only matters in chutz laaretz.

Alos HaShacharWhich reckoning of dawn. This also sets when a minor fast begins. The three degree options do not exist at all for weeks of the British summer - Amud falls back to 72 fixed minutes on those days rather than print a blank.

MisheyakirEarliest tallis and tefillin. Never earlier than 60 minutes before netz, whichever you pick - at this latitude a degree-based misheyakir runs over two hours before sunrise in June.

Plag HaMinchaThis drives Earliest Maariv. Gra measures the day sunrise to sunset; the Magen Avraham measures it alos 72 to tzeis 72, which puts plag about an hour later in high summer. Whichever you pick is the time shown; the other opinion is named in small beside it.

Yom tov and minhagimChanukah, Ushpizin, Purim, Erev Pesach

Chanukah lightingShulchan Aruch OC 672:1 says to light "with the end of shkia", and what that means does not resolve - so pick whose opinion you keep. The oil always has to last until half an hour after nightfall, whichever you choose, which is why erev Shabbos needs so much more of it.

Chanukah and MaarivThe Mishnah Berurah, following the Gra, lights first. The Aruch HaShulchan says outright that the world lights after Maariv, and Rav Ovadia rules Arvit first - tadir kodem.

Motzei Shabbos Chanukah, at homeIn shul everyone lights before havdalah. At home the Mishnah Berurah deliberately leaves it open: menorah first is the Rema and the Gra, havdalah first is the Taz, the Ben Ish Chai and Rav Ovadia.

UshpizinBoth orders agree on nights 1, 2, 3 and 7 and differ only on 4, 5 and 6. This cannot be worked out from your nusach - a siddur badged Ashkenaz may print either - so it is worth setting.

Yahrzeit in a leap yearA petirah in a plain Adar. The Rema says Adar I, the Mechaber says Adar II, and both the Rema and the Mishnah Berurah bring the practice of keeping both.

Yahrzeit on a 30th that does not existA petirah on 30 Cheshvan or 30 Kislev, in a year where that month has only 29 days. The Mishnah Berurah's answer depends on whether the first year after the petirah had a 30th, which is what "work it out" does.

Walled city for PurimYerushalayim keeps Purim on 15 Adar. Declared, not detected - like the Israel minhag. Leave this off anywhere else, including Tel Aviv.

Include the modern Israeli daysYom HaShoah, Yom HaZikaron, Yom Ha'atzmaut, Yom Yerushalayim, Yom HaAliyah and Sigd. Off by default. The dates come with their postponements already applied, so Yom HaZikaron and Yom Ha'atzmaut never land on Shabbos.

Day countDays from the start of the flow until the hefsek taharah. Ashkenazi minhag is 5 days from the start of the flow; Sefardi practice varies (many follow 4 per Maran, some count from the last tashmish, some keep 5) - ask your rav which applies to you.

This tracker follows the halachos taught by Rabbi Shmuel Weiner under the JME Semicha Programme in Yerushalayim. It is a calendar and a reminder, not a rav. How long do you wait after meat before dairy? Every one of these is ordinary clock hours, so the countdown holds good through a flight or a change of time zone. Each names the posek it comes from.
